Cops, Clutter and Creating the Possibility of Positive Outcomes

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Picture this: driving through beautiful countryside, listening to and singing with awesome music, feeling incredibly grateful. . . .and being pulled over by a cop for speeding. If that’s not a 180 energy shift, I don’t know what is!

“ You were going 64 mph in a 45 mph zone. That’s almost reckless driving,” the cop informed me. It was one of those, “Oh sh__!” moments. I’d just crested a hill going what I thought was a safe 64 in a 60 mph zone when I suddenly noticed a big sign saying 45 mph. The speed limit had dropped when I was all wrapped up in the great music and wasn’t paying attention. My foot hit the brakes at the same moment I saw the flashing lights. I said a small prayer that he wasn’t coming after me, but no such luck. I told him I’d gotten caught up listening to music. “Where were you going?” he asked. “I’m on my way to visit my elderly mother in Kilmarnock.” I was hoping that mentioning my mother might elicit some sympathy for my plight.

I continued to pray while the cop filled out his paperwork and did whatever cops do when they have nabbed someone exceeding the speed limit. I refused to let my mistake ruin the lovely natural high I’d been feeling. “It’s only money,” I told myself. “Far worse things could happen that involve cops.” It was no easy feat to stay positive when my impulse was to give myself a good word whipping for my mistake! But, I knew that the only things I had control of in that moment were my thought and behaviors. So, I kept focusing on possible positive outcomes despite my annoyance at myself for getting caught exceeding the speed limit.

“ You have an excellent driving record,” the cop said when he returned to my open window. “You can pay this, but I really recommend you go to court. That’s the best way to make sure you keep your record clean.” I was flabbergasted to say the least! How wonderful that the cop cared that I keep my record clean! And, he was trying to help me! Wow! His parting words were, “Just look for the old man with the bald head,” as he whipped off his hat.

What does all this have to do with clutter clearing? Clutter clearing shifts energy in your living and working environments from negative to positive. That energy affects YOUR energy. I work very hard every day to maintain a home with minimal clutter. Not only does my effort pay off by creating a comfortable living environment, but it also helps keep my energy positive. I view my good fortune in my speeding predicament as an indication that even when unpleasant things happen, I can attract good outcomes if I am a source of positive energy.

Remember, the negative energy of clutter negatively affects your energy. Keep clearing clutter so you too can be a source of positive energy and attract positive outcomes even in negative circumstances!

I Have a Dream–Clear Clutter for Good!

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

My dream is to take the message “Clear Clutter for Good” worldwide! Clearing clutter for good is not about getting rid of clutter once and for all. After all, clutter clearing is an on-going process, not an event. However, with information and support it is possible to make clutter clearing a positive action 12 months of the year. How would your life be different if you made a conscious effort to clear clutter every single month of the year?

I believe that intentional clutter clearing makes space for good in your life and in our world in three ways.

  1. You get more of what you really want in all areas of your life.
  2. When you get more of what you really want, you are happier and become a bright light and positive influence in a world that has much darkness.
  3. You move static resources back out into the community in the form of donations and recycling.

To accomplish my dream I have established The 12 Month Clutter Clearing Community. It is a membership site devoted to helping people clear clutter for good. This year I am walking members through every area of the house, with clutter clearing advice in the form of blog posts, action plans, daily tips, and video tips.

I will also be telling the stories of three courageous women who have committed to 12 months of intentional clutter clearing with me. You can follow their journeys and find inspiration to tackle your own clutter clearing challenges.

To foster a sense of community and share ideas and resources, I will facilitate a monthly conference call where members can participate in conversations with other members in a community forum and groups of specific interest, and I will be answering specific questions about clutter clearing dilemmas.

How can you help? You can do three things right now:

  1. If you are not already a member, join now!
  2. Tell 3 of your friends/family members about the Community and ask them to join so you can support each other in your clutter clearing efforts. Ask them to “pay it forward” and ask 3 of their family/friends to join the Community.
  3. Start your own clearing project for just 15 minutes per day, notice how your life changes for good, and tell others about what clutter clearing has done for you.

Thanks for your help to share my message: Clear Clutter for Good!

Alpaca Dream Update–The Power of Clutter Clearing

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Those of you who read my previous post entitled “Clear Clutter to Get Your Dream–Alpacas Here We Come!” may be wondering what happened to Julie, my client who intentionally cleared her whole house to go for her dream of living in the mountains and raising alpacas. Once the hurdle of selling her house had been handled, she set her intention on finding the right new home for the next leg of her journey. I was so excited when I got a call from her with news that she’s found that home. It’s just 20 minutes north of Asheville, NC, in a small community named Mars Hill. The house is the perfect size for her, is set into a lovely landscape, has been lovingly and meticulously maintained by its current owner, and she’s set to close on the house on June 4. The sale of her house will be final on June 14.

What’s interesting is that the current owner of Julie’s new house is an energy worker. I have always suspected that Julie is an energy worker in preparation. She is fascinated by Reiki , healing touch, feng shui, etc. So, the predecessor chi (energy left by previous owners) of the house is a good match for Julie!

Not only has Julie gotten a full price offer on her home, negotiated an acceptable contract for a lovely new home, but everything else seems to be falling into place. She had a camper and shed down at Sandbridge that she needed to sell. On a recent trip to the beach she easily sold both. All the arrangements associated with the move are being handled with relative ease!

Julie's New Home

Remember, Julie has been orchestrating this move by herself. She is a single mom of grown children pursuing a dream. How often do you hear of middle aged single women pulling up roots and setting off on an adventure? Not very often! I’m so impressed with Julie’s courage and determination! And, I’m impressed with what can happen when you get clear about what you really want! Julie got clear mentally, then got clear physically–by clearing her home of all items that she no longer loved and used. In so doing, she removed energetic boundaries that could have impeded her progress to follow her dream.

Julie’s journey still continues. I can’t wait to see where it will lead her. To her credit, she has managed to keep her fear of the unknown in check and take the necessary steps to keep moving forward. What is your heart’s desire? What do you really want, but feel unable to attain? If you don’t know what you want, or if you do, but can’t see a way to go for it, start by clearing clutter. Clear the energetic barriers that block you from having what you really want. Julie has demonstrated that clearing clutter can help make dreams come true!

Getting Conscious About Big Blocks to Productivity

Mom and Mark

Have you ever noticed that you can’t get some things done until you’ve leaped other hurdles? Some tasks take up so much psychic energy that they make any other task that takes some mental energy seem impossible. For example, I recently took my mom to Connecticut to visit my disabled brother, Mark. It was Mom’s first trip anywhere for almost four years. Even though I’d made all the travel arrangements and had made the trip many times before, this was the first time I was taking my mother to Connecticut since I’d become aware that she has some serious cognitive deficits. Because of her age and her deficits, I had no idea how she would do on the trip. Would it exhaust her? How would she behave? How would I handle managing Mark, whose brain injuries have left him with mobility and behavioral issues that can be challenging, AND my mother? After all, I was the conductor of the Connecticut symphony–the Mom and Mark visit.

I had no idea how big a psychic block that trip was until I got home. I felt so relieved! Even after a grueling nine and a half hour drive back, I had energy. After unpacking and settling back in to my life at home, I was excited and energized about getting back to my business, to writing and working to promote my new membership site, the 12 Month Clutter Clearing Community (www.ClutterClearingCommunity.com).

The same thing happened when I was preparing to give the “Move That Mountain: Clutter Clearing Tips for Staying the Course to Completion” speech the past few weeks. It was a new speech, and typically new speeches are tough to create and present. It’s a risk to step out of my comfort zone and present new material. It was as if I was getting ready to give birth to some new information, information that is near and dear to my heart, information that is difficult to present. I was feeling anxious about whether the way I planned to present it would work and whether I’d be giving my audience information they would value. That was big psychic clutter! I had some other important items on my to do list that I just could not focus on until I’d presented that speech. Once the speech was done, I rested briefly, and then was off and running again–tackling writing projects that had been waiting for weeks.

Have you got any big obstacles blocking your forward progress? What can you do today to move them out of your path? If moving them isn’t an option, know that when they’re gone you’ll likely enjoy a pleasant burst of energy from having leaped those hurdles.

I Love My Life! Clear Clutter and You Can Too!

Friday, May 4th, 2012

I love my life! I love almost everything I do. I love my work. I have a great marriage. I have a comfortable home. I have good friends. I enjoy learning new things all the time. I have three great furry children. I’ve made peace with all family members. And, when I really want something new, I can usually find a way to get it. What a big change from the days when I was working full time for a school system, counting the hours until I could go home to watch a taped soap opera!

When I think about how I came to be in this good place, I can definitely say it was not a straight line to get here. Each step along the way involved some challenge, some pain, and some learning. I think what made it possible for me to maneuver through all the obstacles to a more fulfilling and peaceful place was that I have been vigilant about maintaining an organized, comfortable home. The order I created and the hard work required to maintain it has grounded me through the tough times. When I run into a rough patch, my stuff is not part of the problem. I can focus on the current challenge, supported by the systems I have in place that help me maintain order even during the worst of times.

Do you love your life? If not, why not? What would you change? Start by clearing your clutter so you too can clear a path to a life that you love.
